WHEN YOU REALIZE THAT CHANGING YOURSELF CAN CHANGE THE WORLD

The last time I was in a restaurant, I came across a couple saying “oh look at that guy in those blue shorts. They look so cheap for this place”, looking at a man, happily enjoying with his group of friends.

From, expecting people to have the same taste in fashion as we do to, wanting them to think like us, we all wish that this world worked our way.

 Why?

Because we feel our opinions are right, we are right. That’s why, when somebody is not similar to us, we tag them as wrong and create a mess in our heads.

What we don’t understand is that it’s not about them being wrong or us being right, it’s about different perspectives, different personalities. What is right for me, may be wrong for somebody else so at the end of the day, both the parties expect a change from the other side.

You are wrong according to them, remember?

So, who should change now?

But before that, why does this happen? Our comfort zones become the culprit here because it’s easy.

Yes, it’s easier and we are naturally wired to do comfortable things that give instant happiness and comfort than to step out of that zone and burn some calories or change your own perspective.

When was the last time you did something, you knew was right for you, but was new and painful?

See? You have your answer.

The only thing life has placed in our hands is the power of control, only and only on ourselves and not on the people around us or the incidents that happen to us. When we realize this, our happiness becomes independent of what’s happening around us.

But how does this process start?

Since this is the conditioning of the mind from childhood, it has to be dealt in detail, touching every aspect that creates this issue within us.

·       ACCEPTANCE

We need to accept that people come from different cultures and backgrounds, so it is natural for them to have different thoughts and habits when compared to us.  Accept the simple truths of life, like death, and embrace the life we have.

·       UNDERSTANDING

To understand and discover certain elements like what influences our thoughts? How is it related to the functioning of the body and mind?

·       GROWTH MINDSET

We need get into the habit of cultivating new habits and confronting new experiences. Training the body and mind to build resistance towards pain can bring about a huge change in us.

·       PRACTICAL APPLICATION

It is easy to feed theories and quotes inside the head but to bring that into action is where the actual game starts.

These are just a few ways you can get started with, but the most important task is to remember why you started when you feel like giving up.

Focus on one thing at a time and keep reminding yourself that if not now, then the “perfect time” will never come and you will never have what the entire world is cracking its head for: happiness.

Going back to the incident I had mentioned at the beginning of my post, what if the guy in blue shorts didn’t mind dressing up because all he ever wanted was some quality time with his friends? But the way the woman saw it just brings in unnecessary thoughts inside her mind which could even hurt the guy, if he had heard them.

We can’t expect the world around us to change but we can expect from ourselves, right?
